NYX Haul & Find

Recently fellow bloggers Nouveau Cheap & Lady Luck Beauty said that nyx could be found in walmart (ONLY IN PUERTO RICO). For that same reason I ended up going to walmart & did find  nyx. I ended up going to three walmarts which were in Carolina, Bayamon, & Caguas. All three had nyx displays (they replaced palladio). The walmart in caguas had less products than the other two walmarts. They had a nice variety of products eyeshadows, jumbo eyeshadow pencils, eyeliners, lipliners, & concealers amond many other things. Any who here is a picture of the display:
So on to the haul I only got four things (three eyeliners & one eyeshadow):
Studio Liquid Liner in Extreme Blue ($3.97):
I love blue liquid liner. It is a fun way to put a pop of color. I would describe this as a primer paint blue.
Liquid Crystal Liner in Crystal Hip ($3.97):
This is a glitter eyeliner. I bought this by mistake what I really wanted was the nyx candy glitter liner (which aren't being sold in walmart). This is a sheer multi colored glitter liquid eyeliner.
Liquid Crystal Liner in Crystal Pewter ($3.97):
Just as the other crystal liner I bought this by mistake. This is a sparkly lilac glitter liner.
Here are swatches of the three eyeliners:
Eyeshadow in Mermaid Green ($4.27):
This is a emerald green eyeshadow. {I truly am a sucker for purple & green eye shadow}
Here is a swatch:
Here are swatches of all the products:

Without Flash:
As for the prices: They are pretty good on certain items when in comparison to nyxcosmetics.com. The liquid liners are cheaper on Beauty Joint since the retail for $3.75. As are the single eye shadows since they retail for $3.50 on Beauty Joint.  But remember you might have to pay shipping and handling so it might just be better to get them in the store.
Random Notes: As the pictures show I have started wearing nail polish on my finger nails (with the exception of my right index because it might be permanently damaged). I also am sorry for the lack of posts there has been a lot going on. Hopefully this week I will be able to start posting more regularly.

Just So You Know . . . . Specials

Hi! This is going to be a new series on my blog. I will feature different things I think you should know. This week I am going to be talking about specials. Recently in Sally Beauty Supply I have noticed a lot of nail polishes are on special (this will vary depending the store). But one of the specials that really caught my attention is from China Glaze. Most of the China Glaze Tronica collection nail polishes are $1.99! Some stores even have a 50% off so you could get it for alot less. I do suggest you check the price first. Finger Paints is also on special and are $3.99 (from my understanding it is all the nail polishes and ends on May 31). *If you have a Sally Beauty Supply Pro Card it is $2.99* On another note (not specials though) I have seen alot of Sally Beauty Supply's with the complete China Glaze Crackle collection.

Nars Day & Night Palette Review & Swatches

Recently I did a post mentioning how there was NARS makeup in Marshalls. On that trip I ended up buying an eye shadow palette. It is the Day And Night palette. It has six shades. The shades which are in this palette are Abyssinia, Cleo, Sugarland, Underworld, Fathom, and Night Breed.

As for the review:
Amount: There is .04 oz of every eyeshadow. In a normal Nars single eyeshadow there is .07 oz.
Amount Comparison: In a MAC eyeshadow there is .05 oz. In a Urban Decay eyeshadow there is .05 oz.
Here is what the palette looks like:
Overview:
Abyssinia is a shimmery peach pearl. This is my favorite color in the top row. I would describe Sugarland as an orange brown shimmer. This is my least favorite shade of the top row. The reason is that it does not seem to be as easy to work with as the other shades in terms of showing up. For that same reason you would need to put a eye shadow primer when using it.  Fathom is a baby pink with shimmer.
Here are swatches for the top row:

The bottom three shades are more dark. Cleo is a shimmery baby blue. Underworld is a black but with navy blue undertones. This is my favorite from the bottom row. It is also my favorite from the whole palette. Night Breed is a black with glitter. If you want the glitter to stay on make sure that you put a primer or a sticky base because it will fall out.
Here are swatches for the bottom three shades:

Three of the shades in this palette are still available in single form. Those three shades are: Abyssinia, Fathom, & Night Breed.
Quality: Overall I think this palette is okay. I just am not loving the top row. The only shade that kind of impresses me in the top row is Abyssinia. The same can not be said for the bottom row. I LOVE the colors. They are all easy to work with. As I said previously my favorite shade has to be Underworld (ironic because I really like the movie). I recently did a look using underworld here is a link Gloomy Storm. The shade that would be followed after Underworld would have to be Night Breed. As mentioned previously I would suggest the use of an eye shadow primer. This will just ensure that the eye shadows will stand out and not move.
Would I recommend it? This really varies. If you like the eye shadow shades and do not mind working with some of the shades more then go ahead. I would also recommend this if you could get it for a really good price (thanks marshalls!). I would not recommend this if you do mind having to work a little more with certain shades.
Side Note: I am going to do a separate post which will feature possible dupes & substitutions for each of the shades.

Finger Paints Peace, Love, & Color (Haul, Review & Swatches)

Peace, Love, & Color is Finger Paints Summer 2011 collection. It has six new nail polishes. This is what the display looks like:
Out of the six shades I ended up getting three (I only paid for two & the third one was free). The three I got where All You Need Is Color (shimmer), Peaceful Purple (shimmer), and Psychedelic Sunshine (shimmer). Recently I ended up getting the other three because they were on special. Finger Paints is on special for $3.99. The other three are  Give Pink A Chance (Crème), Groovy Green (shimmer), Outta Sight Orange (shimmer).
Polish Overview:
All You Need Is Color
Is a shimmery turquoise.
Swatch:
With Flash
Without Flash
Formula: While I thought I would like this color the most I ended up like Psychedelic Sunshine because it was more opaque. This was sheer and needed 3 coats.
Give Pink A Chance
is a bright vibrant pink coral.
Swatch:
With Flash
Without Flash
Groovy Green
is a lime green.
Swatch:
With Flash
Without Flash
Formula: This one is really thick. Nothing that can't be fixed with nail polish thinner. On a side note the ripple on the finger is not because of the nail polish. It is because of my nails.
Outta Sight Orange
is a orange with pink shimmer
Swatch:
With Flash
 Formula: This is two coats
Peaceful Purple
Is a shimmery violet.
Swatch:
With Flash
Without Flash
Formula: This formula is just like All You Need Is Color but a little better.  Both All You Need Is Color & Peaceful Purple left me kind of disappointed since I wish they were a bit more opaque. I do not recommend both these nail polishes to any one who does not like to fuss with nail polish in order for it to show up.
Psychedelic Sunshine
Is a shimmery bright yellow.
Swatch:
With Flash
Without Flash
Formula: In the beginning I thought this formula was too thick but it ended up being fine. I only needed one coat. I did not plan on getting this one but I got it because it was free (during april Sally Beauty Supply had a special where if you bought two polishes you could get another one {same price or less} for free)
Overall:  If I could only get one nail polish I would be stuck between Psychedelic Sunshine & Outta Sight Orange. If I was forced to choose one I would pick Outta Sight Orange because I do not have anything like it. The one I liked least was Groovy Green. It's just something about the formula. It applies kinda strange. If you do not like having to build up the color I suggest you skip out on All You Need Is Color, and Peaceful Purple.

On a side-note: I am sorry I am only showing you a swatch on one nail. As I have said in previous posts my nails are not in their best shape. I had acrylic nails done in March. The nail technician went drill crazy and filed my nails too much. When I do have my nails in better health I promise all future swatches will be a full hand.

Gloomy Storm Eye Of The Day: May 3 (Dupes & How To)

This is an eotd I did using urban decay & NARS eye shadows. This is a really good look especially if you want to make your eyes pop. This is something I think would go great with prom. What I like most about this look is that the pop of color is not overwhelming.

Products Used:
Eye Shadow Primer: Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Eye Shadow (Shade 1): Urban Decay Money (Book Of Shadows 3)
Eye Shadow (Shade 2): Urban Decay Haight (Book Of Shadows 3, it is a permanent shade in Sephora)
Eye Shadow (Shade 3): NARS Underworld  (Day & Night Palette)
Eyeliner (upper lash line): NYC Liquid Eyeliner in Pearlized Black
Mascara Primer: Hard Candy 1,000 Lashes Fiberized Lash Weave Primer
Mascara: L'oreal Telescopic Explosion, Cover Girl Lash Blast Length

Substitutions:
Most of these shades are limited edition so here are dupes & or substitutions for each of the shades:
Urban Decay Money: This is a grey with green undertones and it is kinda of metallic looking. I do not have a specific color but I would use a light silver & then over that put a little olive over it.
Urban Decay Haight: This is a blue green. It is not limited edition. A dupe for it is Maybelline Expert Wear Eye Shadow in 155 Turquoise Jewel.
NARS Underworld: This is a black with a navy blue undertones. A dupe for it is Sally Girl eyeshadow in White Chocolate. These eyeshadow retails for .99 cents!
I might do a future post showing both of the dupes in comparison to the original shade
Here is how to achieve this look:
First start with a clean eye & prime it (this is so it will last all day or night)
Then apply the first shade to the inner half of your eyelid.
Apply the second shade on the outer half of your eyelid (leave a little space in the outer corner). Make sure to take it up a bit into the crease.
Blend the second shade
Put the third shade in the space you left & take it up to your crease
Apply the third shade into the lower lash line
Apply a thin line of eyeliner (I used liquid)
Apply Mascara
(Finish the rest of your face) & You are done!
*If you want to make this more dramatic you can tightline & add  false eye lashes!*

If you have any questions, leave them down below

China Glaze Island Escape (Haul, Review & Swatches)

Recently I was able to find China Glaze's summer collection, which is Island Escape. It has six new nail polishes. This is what the display looks like:
There are two different finishes which are crème (some say neon instead) & shimmer. The six nail polishes are Blue Iguana, Cha Cha Cha,  Electric Pineapple, Papaya Punch, Señorita Bonita,  & 108 Degrees.
Polish Overview:
Blue Iguana
I would describe this color as a teal with blue shimmer.
Swatch:
 With Flash
Without Flash
Notes: This was three coats.
Cha Cha Cha
This is a bright lime green with yellow iridescence.
Swatch:
With Flash
 Without Flash
Note: This was one coat.
Electric Pineapple
This shade for me is a little hard to describe. I would say it is a bright yellow green. This is one of the shades that has a crème finish.
Swatch:
With Flash
Without Flash
Note: This was three coats.
Papaya Punch
When I see this shade I do not see papaya I think of mangos. I would describe this as a bright mango orange. This is the other nail polish in this collection that has a crème finish.
Swatch:
With Flash
 Without Flash
Note: This was one coat.
Señorita Bonita
I would describe this as a bright violet with pink shimmer. (On a sidenote: I really think this name is cute)
Swatch:
With Flash
 Without Flash
Note: This was three coats.
108 Degrees
To me this is a red cherry with pink shimmer.
Swatch:
With Flash
 Without Flash
Note: This was three coats.
Overall I really like this collection. The polish that impressed me the most was Papaya Punch. The reason it impressed me so much was because the pigmentation was amazing and the formula was nice too. I was a little disappointed with Blue Iguana and Senorita Bonita because you need to build them up. No surprise if I could only get one polish it would be Papaya Punch. I am truly surprised that I would choose that one since I LOVE purples & greens. I would have chosen Senorita Bonita if it were pigmented. The reason I did not choose Cha Cha Cha is because I find it to be a generic color. It looks like Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in 17 Ivy League (In a future post I will compare the two).
