Nars Day & Night Palette Review & Swatches

Recently I did a post mentioning how there was NARS makeup in Marshalls. On that trip I ended up buying an eye shadow palette. It is the Day And Night palette. It has six shades. The shades which are in this palette are Abyssinia, Cleo, Sugarland, Underworld, Fathom, and Night Breed.

As for the review:
Amount: There is .04 oz of every eyeshadow. In a normal Nars single eyeshadow there is .07 oz.
Amount Comparison: In a MAC eyeshadow there is .05 oz. In a Urban Decay eyeshadow there is .05 oz.
Here is what the palette looks like:
Overview:
Abyssinia is a shimmery peach pearl. This is my favorite color in the top row. I would describe Sugarland as an orange brown shimmer. This is my least favorite shade of the top row. The reason is that it does not seem to be as easy to work with as the other shades in terms of showing up. For that same reason you would need to put a eye shadow primer when using it.  Fathom is a baby pink with shimmer.
Here are swatches for the top row:

The bottom three shades are more dark. Cleo is a shimmery baby blue. Underworld is a black but with navy blue undertones. This is my favorite from the bottom row. It is also my favorite from the whole palette. Night Breed is a black with glitter. If you want the glitter to stay on make sure that you put a primer or a sticky base because it will fall out.
Here are swatches for the bottom three shades:

Three of the shades in this palette are still available in single form. Those three shades are: Abyssinia, Fathom, & Night Breed.
Quality: Overall I think this palette is okay. I just am not loving the top row. The only shade that kind of impresses me in the top row is Abyssinia. The same can not be said for the bottom row. I LOVE the colors. They are all easy to work with. As I said previously my favorite shade has to be Underworld (ironic because I really like the movie). I recently did a look using underworld here is a link Gloomy Storm. The shade that would be followed after Underworld would have to be Night Breed. As mentioned previously I would suggest the use of an eye shadow primer. This will just ensure that the eye shadows will stand out and not move.
Would I recommend it? This really varies. If you like the eye shadow shades and do not mind working with some of the shades more then go ahead. I would also recommend this if you could get it for a really good price (thanks marshalls!). I would not recommend this if you do mind having to work a little more with certain shades.
Side Note: I am going to do a separate post which will feature possible dupes & substitutions for each of the shades.

Gloomy Storm Eye Of The Day: May 3 (Dupes & How To)

This is an eotd I did using urban decay & NARS eye shadows. This is a really good look especially if you want to make your eyes pop. This is something I think would go great with prom. What I like most about this look is that the pop of color is not overwhelming.

Products Used:
Eye Shadow Primer: Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Eye Shadow (Shade 1): Urban Decay Money (Book Of Shadows 3)
Eye Shadow (Shade 2): Urban Decay Haight (Book Of Shadows 3, it is a permanent shade in Sephora)
Eye Shadow (Shade 3): NARS Underworld  (Day & Night Palette)
Eyeliner (upper lash line): NYC Liquid Eyeliner in Pearlized Black
Mascara Primer: Hard Candy 1,000 Lashes Fiberized Lash Weave Primer
Mascara: L'oreal Telescopic Explosion, Cover Girl Lash Blast Length

Substitutions:
Most of these shades are limited edition so here are dupes & or substitutions for each of the shades:
Urban Decay Money: This is a grey with green undertones and it is kinda of metallic looking. I do not have a specific color but I would use a light silver & then over that put a little olive over it.
Urban Decay Haight: This is a blue green. It is not limited edition. A dupe for it is Maybelline Expert Wear Eye Shadow in 155 Turquoise Jewel.
NARS Underworld: This is a black with a navy blue undertones. A dupe for it is Sally Girl eyeshadow in White Chocolate. These eyeshadow retails for .99 cents!
I might do a future post showing both of the dupes in comparison to the original shade
Here is how to achieve this look:
First start with a clean eye & prime it (this is so it will last all day or night)
Then apply the first shade to the inner half of your eyelid.
Apply the second shade on the outer half of your eyelid (leave a little space in the outer corner). Make sure to take it up a bit into the crease.
Blend the second shade
Put the third shade in the space you left & take it up to your crease
Apply the third shade into the lower lash line
Apply a thin line of eyeliner (I used liquid)
Apply Mascara
(Finish the rest of your face) & You are done!
*If you want to make this more dramatic you can tightline & add  false eye lashes!*

NARS ALERT! NARS In Marshalls?

Recently I went shopping trip with my mother to Marshall's. As I was passing the beauty aisle I found NARS makeup. As many of you know NARS is quite pricey, but all of it was on sale! They had mini lip glosses in a set, eyeshadow palettes, and other kinds of mixed sets. Any who for those of you who plan on going to Marshalls & like NARS you should check out the beauty aisle (I do not know if the Marshalls I went to is the only one but it is worth a shot).

NARS DUPE! MAC DUPE! wetnwild Color Icon Eyeshadow Trio in "I'm Getting Sunburned"

This is another trio from wetnwild, which came out with there 2011 collection. This one is in the shade 334 I'm Getting Sunburned. This palette has a pink, a brown & a coppery shade.
It has three shades, all  of which are labeled but it does not mean you have to use them as it says,  it also has two eyeshadow applicators one of which is the traditional sponge tip applicator while the other is an angled brush.
Here are swatches of the palettes:

I would describe the highlight shade as a pearly pink, the crease shade as a rich chocolate brown, and the eyelid shade as a copper yellow.
As for Pigmentation: They have pretty good pigmentation. But warning the crease shade is very pigmented and needs to be used sparingly if not it ends up looking black.
As for the dupes:
As I was finalizing this post I realized the crease shade is a TOTAL dupe for NARS single eyeshadow Mekong. They are identical both in the pan, in swatches, & in photos. Here is a comparison in the pan:

Extra Bonus: I have heard people say this is a dupe to MAC's Amber Lights. For those wondering Amber Lights has a frost finish. Here is a comparison of the two shades:

Here are swatches of both shades:

For some odd reason in photos they end up looking identical. But in person MAC has a orange copper hint to it while wetnwild has a yellow hint to it. But who cares if in photos they look the same!
Overall: This palette is a GREAT value. You end up with two high end dupes and it truly competes quality wise. If you were to get the NARS eyeshadow MEKONG you would end up spending $25.00 (& that does not include the tax). If you get this palette it is just $2.99 & you get three shadows.

I will post a look I created using this palette only soon.
